Meet the Team

Carissa Johnson, MS, CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

Carissa was born and raised in the Sunshine State and has spent over 20 years as a pediatric speech therapist helping children and families strengthen their communication skills.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Florida and her master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University. She holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and is licensed by the Florida Department of Health.​​​
Before starting Play On Words Therapy Solutions, Carissa worked as a clinical director, diagnostician, and lead therapist in a private clinic. She also has experience in both public and private school settings.

Carissa believes speech therapy should be collaborative, playful, and family-centered. She supports children with late talking, autism, speech sound disorders, language delays, and literacy challenges. She stays current with evidence-based practices through advanced training and continuing education. Outside of therapy, she enjoys time with her husband, two daughters, and their dogs, Finn and Nash.
