Carissa was born and raised in the Sunshine State. She holds an undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Florida. Carissa received her Master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Nova Southeastern University. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is certified by the Florida Department of Health.

Carissa has dedicated her entire career to helping people effectively communicate. She has over 20 years of experience in the field and is an expert in the diagnosis and remediation of speech, language, and communication delays.

Prior to opening Play on Words Therapy Solutions, Carissa served as a clinical director, diagnostician, and lead therapist in a private clinic setting. She has vast experience in both the public and private school settings, allowing her to be an advocate to families and help guide them as they seek the best educational services for their kids.

Carissa believes strongly in supporting children and their families as a team. Including families in every aspect of a child’s treatment, leads to greater progress and allows children and their families to share in the experience of success. Carissa has experience working with children with a variety of speech and language needs, including late talkers, autism, speech sound disorders, receptive and expressive language delays/disorders, and literacy disorders.

Carissa understands providing evidence-based therapy services is an integral part of the therapy process. Through continuing education and advanced training, Carissa is able to provide her clients with the highest quality of care. She is a fun and creative therapist who loves to make therapy meaningful for her clients. Whether online or in-person, each therapy session is carefully planned for each child's unique interests, strengths, and goals.

When Carissa is not supporting the many families she works with, she is busy spending time with her husband, two daughters, and their dog Finn.
